Broughty Ferry Post Office update

I have been liaising with my colleague, Bill Bowman MSP, about the Broughty Ferry Post Office. The latest update from Post Office Ltd advised that it is currently engaging with retailers who have shown an interest, but it hasn’t been able to give a timescale for when a new service will be established.

As well as seeking a longer term outcome its field team are continuing to look for a short term temporary solution that will allow a service to be restored in the meantime. Some residents suggested to me that a mobile facility might be the answer for a temporary fix, however Post Office Ltd has said this isn’t an option as mobile Post Office services are run by postmasters as part of their core Post Office business and no mobile service exists in the area.
I was pleased to see that a commitment has again been given to providing a Post Office service in Broughty Ferry. It’s just a pity it’s taking so long.

Road and pavement success

Panmure Street
I have been advised of the Roads Maintenance Partnership’s planned maintenance programmes for the 2017/18 financial year and was delighted to see that a number of locations I have highlighted as needing attention are to be dealt with. Panmure Street, one of the most potholed streets in the town, is to be resurfaced, as is Traill Street. In recent months I have received many complaints from local residents and road users about their condition so it’s good to see them getting some attention.

Good news too about the unadopted pavements. Three that I have repeatedly pushed for are to be brought up to standard and adopted by the council. These are Maule Street, Reresmount Place and Collingwood Crescent. A few still remain to be done and I will be doing all I can to get these attended to as well.

Change of polling place

Dundee City council has urged voters in the forthcoming local government elections to check their poll cards carefully as some polling places have changed.

In The Ferry ward anyone who previously used the Panmurefield Baptist Centre in Lawers Drive will now cast their vote at Grange Primary School in Grange Road. This move is not permanent and when the current refurbishment of the centre is complete it will again be used as a polling place.
If residents prefer they can apply for a postal vote. The last day for receipt of applications for the election is Tuesday 18th April. Application forms can be obtained from the Electoral Registration Office, 20 City Square or online at:  http://www.dundeecity.gov.uk/localelections2017/howtovote.

Please contact Jimmy Mooney, the timebank coordinator, if you would like to join in and help raise funds for this Broughty Ferry charity. You can book a place as a team of four or as an individual who wants to join a team.
