Conservative street stall in Dundee

Dundee’s Conservative candidates, Nicola Ross and Bill Bowman, and some local Conservative supporters held a street stall in Dundee city centre on Saturday to speak to shoppers about the General Election. There was a really good response and a number of different issues were raised.

Roadworks- West Queen Street

I have been advised that Dundee City Council propose to make a temporary traffic order for the purpose of facilitating carriageway resurfacing works in West Queen Street.  The Order is expected to be in force for 7 days from 9 May 2015.

The effect of the order is to prohibit temporarily all vehicular traffic in West Queen Street at its junction with Claypotts Road (Phase 1) and West Queen Street from Bayfield Road to Claypotts Road (Phase 2).

Phase 1 is expected to last for 2 days, followed by Phase 2 for a further 5 days.

An alternative route will be available for Phase 1 via Victoria Road, Ballinard Road, Balgillo Road, Forthill Road and Fort Street and for Phase 2 via Victoria Road, Strathern Road and Claypotts Road.

Priority list of unadopted footways

Reres Road
The council has recently published its updated priority list of unadopted footways. There aren’t as many Broughty Ferry pavements included in a programme of works for 2015/16 as I had hoped for but nevertheless I’m pleased to see that another two are to be brought up to standard and adopted by the council for future maintenance. These are: Reres Road (south footway, Monifieth Road to Reres Park) and Abertay Street (east footway, south of Hamilton Street). Also in the programme for 2015/16 is Stewart Street, but this has been carried over from last year’s programme.

There are 17 unadopted pavements across the city to be attended to over the course of the year. It is expected that the work will commence on these schemes on a phased basis starting in early summer 2015.

The list will be updated at the start of  2016 for 2016/17 to take account of any new information and additions to the list. There are currently four Broughty Ferry unadopted pavements in the provisional list for next year.

Car park at Gillies Park

I was pleased to see that the resurfacing of the car park in Gillies Park is nearly completed. It now has a proper surface and lined spaces for parking, which is quite a difference to what it was like before. I previously received fairly regular contact from residents about the condition of the car park and the representations I made to the Environment Department would result in some patching being carried out and excessive pooling being dealt with. However due to the likely increase in usage  as a result of the recent extension to nearby Barnhill Primary School the council agreed that the time was right to bring the car park up to standard.

Parking review to be carried out

One of the issues raised with me fairly regularly is the need for more on street parking in central Broughty Ferry, particularly in the core shopping area. The outcome of recent contact I have had with officers in the council's City Development Department is that its Network Management team will be carrying out a review of parking provision and arrangements in Broughty Ferry during the summer. There are a lot of issues to take into account such as loading, disabled parking, bus stops, junction protection, etc,  but it is hoped that some additional spaces will be created as a result of additions or alterations to existing waiting restrictions. Any proposals will require a traffic regulation variation order to be made.

The area for the review will include Queen Street to the north, Dundee Road to the west and Panmure Street to the east.

Potholes

The number of potholes seems to be on the rise again. I noted a few this week while out and about and I have reported them to the road maintenance partnership for attention. Albany Road and Ellieslea Road have quite a collection. I have since received a response from the city engineer’s office advising me that the inspector for the area has raised orders for their repair with a timescale of 28 days or sooner.
