Fairer funding for the Ferry

There are six community regeneration forums in Dundee, based on electoral wards, that receive a share of £750,000 from the Fairer Scotland Fund to spend on community projects. The Ferry and West End wards get nothing. On a few occasions in the past I have attempted to secure a share of this funding for Broughty Ferry, most recently at the council’s budget meeting in February. My argument is that poverty exists across the city and people can be socially excluded regardless of where they live.
The council’s chief executive has now advised me that he has asked for a review of the funding to be carried out in time for the 2014/15 revenue budget.  It is anticipated that the outcome of the review will be considered by committee in December.
This is a welcome development; it might not change things but it is at least being looked at.
